There has been a lot of coverage in the press recently about the redevelopment of parts of Smithfield Market.
For clarification, the buildings that are to be redeveloped are at the western end of the site, between the Poultry Market building and Farringdon Street. These buildings have been unused for many years.
The meat market will continue to operate in the existing three buildings – the Poultry Market and the East and West Market buildings sited between West Poultry Avenue and Lindsey Street. The meat trading tenants recently signed new fifteen year leases with their landlord, the City of London.
The Smithfield Market Tenants’ Association welcomes the long-overdue redevelopment of the near-derelict unused buildings on the edge of the meat market.

Midnight to 7am
Closed on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays
The Market will be closed on 25 & 26 December and 1 January.

Closure of Poultry Market
As part of an agreement with our landlords, the City of London, to relocate the Market to Barking and Dagenham, the traders left the Poultry Market building at the end of August this year. The building will become part of the new Museum of London. Smithfield Market contimues to trade from the two remaining Victorian buildings and will continue to do so until at least 2028.
